Good Guys Loitering in East Price Hill
EAST PRICE HILL, Ohio (Angela Ingram) -- The group has been doing this for years. They're brave enough to set up shop on some of the area's most dangerous corners, all in an effort to improve the neighborhood they love.
On a Friday night when many people are relaxing at home or out on the town, a group of men and women pull out their lawn chairs and gather on Price Hill's corners. They call themselves, Good Guys Loitering, and they're at a hot spot, Warsaw and Ross Avenues.
"We've been here every week since the spring. It's quiet. We're here tonight because we want to keep it quiet," said Patti Hogan.
The group has been hanging out on corners for eight years.
"To have an impact you have to keep going after the same place over and over again, until you've thrown a blanket on it," said Hogan. "Then when the next hot spot pops up, we take our chairs and coolers and camp out at that hot spot."
People who are up to no good get the message that they're not welcome. Many of the "Good Guys" have lived their entire lives in Price Hill and are concerned about the increase in crime.
"Things that we've seen in the last few years are frightening to me," said Linda Ackerman of Good Guys Loitering. "It's not the community that I started in and raised my family in so we need to bring out the people that want to live in a good community and safe community"
The group works closely with police. They all feel that it's important to stand up to criminals in their neighborhood.
"We're not going away," said Hogan. "You are not scaring us away. You're not chasing us off. We're here to stay."
Friday night the group also set up on the corner of Warsaw and Elberon. They're hoping to get enough volunteers to loiter on three corners that are trouble spots.
