Fort Thomas council keeps ban on pit bulls
FORT THOMAS, Ky. (Paula Toti) -- A 26 year ban on owning a pit bull in the city of Fort Thomas will stay.
For weeks it has been the subject of public debate as the city council wrestled with the idea of making a change. Despite most people coming out Monday night, August 4, in favor of lifting the ban, council decided to keep things the way they were.
The fatal attack of Cindy Whisman in Madison Township Monday only added fuel to the argument to not lifting the ban. The city safety committee did recommend a current ordinance on pit bulls be investigated again in the future for possible changes.
Council members indicated that that was likely.
In addition to public meetings, council members said they've been bombarded by phone calls and petitions from both sides.
