Starfire Council has 'un-convention' Tuesday

MADISONVILLE (Adam Clements) -- The third annual Starfire un-convention kicks off Tuesday, August 26th, 2014, where young adults with special needs  learn every day life skills.

The reason they call this an un-conference is because they let the participants set the agenda. The young adults with special needs decide the course of the events that will be planned out over the next few days.

This is an event that has really picked up a lot of steam since it started a few years back. Last year more than 250 people came out to take part in the un-convention.

The idea, the goal, is to help young adults with special needs better acclimate themselves to every day life. It gives them a deeper sense of self-worth, and a lot more confidence that they can accomplish anything they set out to do.

The event will start with a blank slate. Starting Tuesday it will be filled in by guests, volunteers and participants to come out and take part.
