Family 411: Back to school savings

CINCINNATI (Sheila Gray) -- The average American family will spend nearly $700 on back to school shopping this year.

People can find lot of deals if they spread out their shopping and do a little research.
Mother of five Jen Lunsford makes a living out of saving families money.

"I always list the promo codes to go with the sales," she explained about her blog.
Deal blogs like Lunsford's can save busy moms time.

"I've found this year the best back to school prices have been Target," she said.
Jen searches store chains across the country for the best prices on everything from jeans to school glue.  But even Jen will pay a little more sometimes for quality.

"I made an investment with an LL Bean back pack years ago and it's lasted through all of the children."
Jen advises before starting to shop to take inventory and figure out what's really needed, what isn't needed and what can be passed down.  Apps can help people save too.  Shopular compares stores' weekly ads and Favado lets people compare prices on items on their shopping list.
Getting good deals can take time so this blogger's number one tip for saving money on back to school?  Start early.
