Reds, P&G and Zoo volunteers to improve rec center, ballfields

SOUTH CUMMINSVILLE, Ohio (Adam Clements) -- The Reds Community Fund did a lot of work in South Cumminsville.

They made some much needed improvements to the Millvale Rec Center and the Wayne Ballfields.  More than 400 volunteers from the Reds Community Fund, P&G and the Cincinnati Zoo were up and out early Wednesday morning.

At the rec center volunteers upgraded the kitchen, game room and computer room.  They painted several rooms.  They also put in a new playground, landscaping and fencing.

The ball fields will be restored and updated along with new landscaping for the surrounding park.  A new football field for the community will also be created.  In all, volunteers planted 1,200 trees, bushes and shrubs.  200 tons of mulch, topsoil and gravel was laid down.

Charlie Frank from the Reds Community Fund said the Millvale Rec Center was one of the busiest in the city and there was a lot of need to help the kids in the South Cumminsville and Millvale neighborhoods.
