Crowds gather along the Ohio for Riverfest

NEWPORT, Ky. (Adam Clements) -- The end-of-summer blow-out kicks off Sunday, August 31st, 2014, at noon at Yeatman's Cove and Sawyer Point.

The all-day event's highlight one of the largest fireworks displays in the Midwest.

This year's WEBN fireworks show is getting the full 80's treatment, choreographed to a retro soundtrack.

Several people have already claimed their spot on both sides of the Ohio River a few days early to get the best view of the colorful display.

Half-a-million people are expected to head down to the banks of the Ohio river for the weekend festivities, that include the Rubber Duck Regatta at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Some will camp out Friday and Saturday night in tents to make sure they get the best spot.

Crowds will be large and traffic difficult for this benchmark event in the Cincinnati area.

Food and beverage stations are setting up on Friday.
