Local group wants Kroger to take stand against guns
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A group of mothers wants Kroger to take a stance on guns.
'Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America' kicked off a campaign Monday, August 18 to pressure the grocery chain to ban the open carry of firearms in all of its stores. The group formed after the school massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary.
The campaigns done by the group has led Chipotle and Target to take a stand against guns. Now it's calling on Kroger shoppers to sign a petition to encourage the retailer do the same thing.
Michele Mueller of Moms Demand Action said, "It's just common sense that when you walk into these stores, like Krogers, to grocery shop that that's exactly what you expect to do, is grocery shop. And not have to run or hide or be so frightened."
In a statement Kroger said in part, "We don't want to put our associates in a position of having to confront a customer who is legally carrying a gun."
The statement continued to say the company will, "Follow state and local laws and ask customers to be respectful of others while shopping."
