Senator performs free eye procedures

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKRC) -- Kentucky Senator Rand Paul was a doctor before he was a politician.
And he said he didn't want to lose focus on his previous profession, helping people with their eyesight.  Tuesday in Louisville Paul joined a friend in performing pro-bono surgery for patients who could not afford to pay.
Senator Paul said it was a lot different from the pace of politics, "This is more immediate in the sense that you diagnose a problem and then you fix it.  And most people see better.  In politics, I think sometimes we diagnose a problem correctly but sometimes we misapply and give the wrong solution or sometimes we give no solution at all."

The senator plans to travel to Guatemala later in August to perform operations with a team of surgeons from the University of Utah.
