Willie Anderson, Shaun Alexander among Hall of Fame nominees

CINCINNATI (Marc Juszak) - Former Bengals offensive tackle Willie Anderson and Boone County High School legend running back Shaun Alexander are among 126 modern-era nominees for the 2014 Class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Super Bowl winning coaches Tony Dungy, Mike Holmgren and Jon Gruden are among 16 first-time eligible candidates, joined in that category by wide receiver Marvin Harrison, running back Warrick Dunn, quarterback Trent Green, offensive lineman Walter Jones, linebackers Derrick Brooks, Tedy Bruschi, Willie McGinest and Zach Thomas, and defensive backs Rodney Harrison, Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain.

The preliminary list will be pared down to 25 semifinalists, which will be announced in November. That group will be reduced to 15 modern-era finalists that will join two previously announced senior nominees -- defensive end Claude Humphrey and punter Ray Guy -- up for election.

The Selection Committee will decide on the class during its annual meeting in New York, the day before Super Bowl XLVIII.
