Highlights, lowlights of Bengals season

CINCINNATI (AP) -- A look at some of the highlights and lowlights of the Cincinnati Bengals' season:

Best Game: A 49-9 victory over the Jets at Paul Brown Stadium on Oct. 27. Andy Dalton threw for a career-high five touchdowns, Marvin Jones caught four of the TD passes, and the defense returned two interceptions for touchdowns.

Worst Game: The playoffs, of course. The 27-10 loss to San Diego made it 23 years without a playoff victory, tied for sixth-longest in NFL history.

Best Play: Dalton's 51-yard "Hail Mary" pass at the end of regulation in Baltimore on Nov. 10 bounced off a scrum in the end zone and went right to A.J. Green for a tying touchdown. The Bengals lost 20-17 in overtime.

Worst Play: Three, actually. Dalton had a fumble and two interceptions in the second half of the playoff loss, when San Diego outscored Cincinnati 20-0.

Biggest Surprise: A defense that lost so many stars tackle Geno Atkins, cornerbacks Leon Hall and Terence Newman among them finished No. 3 in the league, Cincinnati's highest ranking since 1983.

Biggest Disappointment: The playoffs, of course. Cincinnati has lost its opening playoff game for three consecutive seasons, tying the NFL record.

What's Next: Both coordinators are interviewing for head coaching jobs. Coach Marvin Lewis is staying. They have to decide whether to give Dalton a long-term extension or look for another quarterback.
