RedHawks Rank Atop National Polls

OXFORD, Ohio (WKRC) -- Coming off a sweep of in-state rival Ohio State, the Miami University hockey team now ranks No. 1 in the nation according to the USA Today/USCHO.com Poll. The Red and White ranked second in the nation prior to the start of the season.

The RedHawks captured 40 of the 50 first-place votes and finished this weeks poll with 985 points. Rounding out the top five were Wisconsin (929), Minnesota (880), Notre Dame (796) and Michigan (701). This weeks opponent, North Dakota, ranks sixth with 678 points.

Other members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference that finished among the top-20 teams were St. Cloud (11th, 516 points), Denver (12th, 431 points) and Minnesota-Duluth (20th, 64 points).

The USCHO.com Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll, published weekly by the Associated Press, is a production of USCHO.com, which provides in-depth coverage of college hockey.
