Billy Hamilton named 2013 IL Postseason All-Star

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville Bats center fielder Billy Hamilton has been named a 2013 International League Postseason All-Star, the league announced Tuesday. The ballots for the honorary team were cast by IL general managers, managers, coaches, radio broadcasters and beat writers.

Hamilton, 22, leads the IL with his 73 stolen bases. His total is the leagues highest since Otis Nixon set the modern IL record with 94 stolen bases in 1983 with Columbus. The next highest stolen base total in the league is Columbus Ezequiel Carrera with 40. Hamiltons 2013 campaign ranks him second in Louisville franchise history in stolen bases for a single seasonVince Coleman stole 101 with the 1984 Redbirds while the team was in the American Association.

The Taylorsville, Miss. native also participated in the Triple-A All-Star Game in Reno, Nev. on July 17, going 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. He played in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field in New York on July 14, his second straight year in the event.

In 2012, Hamilton set the professional baseball record for stolen bases in a season when he swiped 155 bags between Class A Bakersfield and Double-A Pensacola. Last year, he was also named a Baseball America Minor League All-Star, a Southern League All-Star, a Topps Class A All-Star and Baseball Digests Minor League Player of the Year.

Baseball America ranked Hamilton as the Cincinnati Reds top overall prospect entering the 2013 season after ranking him second entering both 2011 and 2012. He was selected by the Reds in the second round of the 2009 draft out of Taylorsville (Miss.) High School and signed with the team, although he was recruited to play wide receiver for Mississippi State.
