Miami loses Bath's debut to UMass, 17-10

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- A.J. Doyle fired a 47-yard, third quarter touchdown pass to Rob Blanchflower to lift UMass to its first win of the season, 17-10 over winless Miami (Ohio) in a Mid-America Conference game Saturday at Gillette Stadium.

The victory matches the Minutemen's total victories from last year, their first year as a Football Bowl Subdivision member and first under Charley Molnar.

Doyle was 19 of 35 for 249 yards and two touchdowns for UMass (1-5, 1-1 MAC).

The RedHawks (0-6, 0-2 MAC) took a 10-7 lead in the third quarter on Kaleb Patterson's 45-yard field goal. Miami had the ball with a chance to tie in the final minute, but was stopped on fourth down.

The loss capped a turbulent week for the RedHawks. Head coach Don [Treadwell] and offensive coordinator John Klacik were fired Sunday. Mike Bath was named interim head coach as well as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
