RedHawks Fall to Falcons 45-3

OXFORD, Ohio (WKRC) -- Miami suffered a 45-3 loss to Bowling Green on Tuesday night at Yager Stadium.

The Falcons (6-3; 4-1 Mid-American Conference) took a 7-0 lead with 6:05 to go in the first quarter when Shaun Joplin caught a 6-yard pass from Matt Johnson.

Just before the end of the quarter, the RedHawks (0-9; 0-5 MAC) cut their deficit to four points when sophomore Kaleb Patterson booted a 51-yard field goal with 55 seconds left. It was the second-longest career field goal for Patterson, who launched a career-long 52-yard field goal in Miamis previous home game against Akron on Oct. 19.

The Bowling Green offense scored 38 unanswered points over the second and third quarters to go on to the win. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter. Miami had five fumbles in the game, losing three of them to the Falcons.

Trailing 24-3 at halftime, MU opened the second half with a defensive stop when Chrishawn Dupuy intercepted a Matt Johnson pass near midfield to set up the RedHawks' offense at the Falcons' 49. After getting a first down, a trick play went awry and ended up in a lost fumble by Miami. BGSU scored a touchdown off the turnover, starting three-straight touchdown drives in the third quarter that capped the scoring.

Sophomore quarterback Drew Kummer threw for a career-high 100 yards, completing 9-of-19 passes. Defensively, sophomore linebacker Kent Kern and senior linebacker Chris Wade led the RedHawks with a game-high-tying eight tackles apiece.

Miami heads to Kent State next week for an 8 p.m. game on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
