Cyclones rally falls short against Elmira
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WKRC) -- A late game rally for the Cincinnati Cyclones (11-7-0-0) was spoiled by the Elmira Jackals (5-10-0-2) as they held onto a 2-1 win in front of 2,813 at First Arena on Friday night.
The hometown Jackals jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Rob Bellamy and Artem Demkov collected goals just three minutes apart beginning at the 8:12 mark. And thanks to a 23-7 shot advantage in the opening stanza, Elmira led it by a pair at the first intermission.
John McFarland answered back for Cincinnati as he caught a cross-ice pass from Adam Brace in the slot and potted his eighth goal of the season at 9:31 to make it a 2-1 contest. However, thanks to another solid period from Jackals goalie Scott Greenham (W, 35 saves, 5-6-0-1), the home team carried the one-goal cushion after 40 minutes of play.
The Cyclones ratcheted up the pressure in the final period, peppering Elmiras goaltender with 13 shots on net. And thanks to a strong showing by Michael Houser (L, 40 saves, 3-4-0), the game was still in reach during the final minutes. Unfortunately, the Jackals penalty kill unit stayed strong to prevent a late-game comeback and took the win by a 2-1 final score.
The Cyclones will close out their three-city road trip tomorrow afternoon in Wheeling, West Virginia as they visit the Nailers at 3:00pm. Fans can hear all the action of the game on the Cyclones Radio Network (CyclonesHockey.com/America One/Cyclones Mobile App) beginning at 2:30pm.
