UC's Conference Announces Bowl Lineup Beginning in 2014 Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WKRC) -- Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced the American Athletic Conference's bowl affiliations for a six-year cycle that spans the 2014 through 2019 football seasons.

In addition to the College Football Playoff and Host Bowls, the American will have either a primary or secondary affiliation with 12 bowl games, with a minimum of six or seven selections each year. The American will work annually with its member schools and bowl partners to create the most sensible and attractive matchups during the new cycle.

Under the new postseason structure that will be in place for the 2014 season, American Athletic Conference teams would have the opportunity to participate in the four-team College Football Playoff if chosen by the CFP Selection Committee.

If the American champion finishes as the highest-ranked team among the champions of Conference USA, the Mountain West Conference, the Mid-American Conference and the Sun Belt Conference, but does not qualify for the College Football Playoff, then it would participate in one of the three Host Bowls that will comprise part of the CFP rotation the Cotton Bowl, the Chick-fil-A Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl.

We have emphasized that our primary objective with respect to our bowl lineup is to provide our schools with opportunities to face the best competition in destinations that are attractive to our student-athletes, coaches and fans, said Aresco. I am pleased that we have accomplished that goal with this outstanding bowl lineup.
