Freezer Bowl alumni to be honored Sunday
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The only previous time the Bengals played the San Diego Chargers in a postseason game, Cincinnati players braved the coldest wind chill (minus-59) in NFL history to punch the Bengals ticket to Super Bowl XVI. And this Sunday, a number of those Bengals players from the Jan. 10, 1982 Freezer Bowl at Riverfront Stadium will be at Paul Brown Stadium, to be honored on the field just before kickoff of the Bengals-Chargers AFC Wild Card game, presented by Fifth Third Bank.
Bengals Freezer Bowl alumni scheduled to be present are Ken Anderson, Jim Breech, Louis Breeden, Glenn Bujnoch, Cris Collinsworth, Tom Dinkel, Archie Griffin, Ray Griffin, M.L. Harris, Robert Jackson, Pete Johnson, Anthony Munoz, Rick Razzano, Mike St. Clair, John Simmons and David Verser.
Also to be honored will be Bengals Freezer Bowl alum Dave Lapham, who will be in the PBS home radio booth at the time of the ceremony, preparing for his role as analyst on the Bengals Radio Network. And a special addition to the on-field group will be James Brooks, who played for San Diego in the Freezer Bowl before later having an outstanding career as a Bengal.
