Miami falls on the road at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio (WKRC) -- Despite a strong first-half effort, the Miami University men's basketball team was not able hold off Ohio University on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center, falling 82-75 to the Bobcats.

Miami (9-12; 5-5 Mid-American Conference) led by as many as 18 points in the first half, but a 50-point second half from Ohio (17-6; 7-3 MAC) was too much for the RedHawks to withstand.

Senior forwards Bill Edwards and Will Felder paced the Red and White with 19 points apiece, while Felder led all players with nine rebounds. Freshman guard Jaryd Eustace chipped in a career-high 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers in the opening half for the RedHawks.

Miami used an early 6-0 flurry to take an 8-3 lead by the 16:16 mark. Holding a four-point advantage, Miami used a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Geovonie McKnight and back-to-back triples from Eustace and Edwards to extend its lead to 12 with 10:15 to go, 23-11. A Eustace 3-pointer pushed the Miami advantage to 15 points, 30-15, but the Bobcats closed the gap to 10 with 5:56 to play, 32-22.

Off a balanced scoring effort capped by a Eustace trey with 2:00 to play, Miami used a 10-3 surge to charge out to an 18-point lead. After some back and forth baskets, Miami carried a 47-32 lead into the half.

The Bobcats came out and scored six of the first eight points of the second half. Edwards knocked down a 3-pointer and sophomore guard Willie Moore added a layup to give Miami a 16-point advantage with 15:16 to play, 54-38. Ohio went on a 12-1 run over the next 6:40 to shrink the Miami lead to five by the 8:35 mark, 55-50. The Bobcats took their first lead since 18:01 of the first half on a Maurice Ndour dunk at 5:36, 60-59.

The teams twice traded buckets, and a layup by senior guard Quinten Rollins knotted the game at 65 with 3:33 to go. Nick Kellogg hit a triple with 3:04 to play to give the Bobcats the final go-ahead bucket as they went on to collect the seven-point win.

Kellogg led the Bobcats with 27 points, while Travis Wilkins added 24 points.

The RedHawks then return home for a Wednesday, Feb. 12 game against Buffalo at 7 p.m. Those interested in purchasing tickets for Miami's final five home contests, including the game against the Bulls, can get the MAC Pack by clicking HERE.
