Clones record shutout in 2-0 win over Evansville
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WKRC) -- Cincinnati goaltender Rob Madore made 36 saves to help backstop the Cyclones (29-19-1-1) to a 2-0 victory over the Evansville IceMen (23-17-3-5) in front of 3,496 at Ford Center on Wednesday night. Paul Crowder and Jonathan Hazen netted the goals for Cincinnati, who shutout an opponent for the fourth time this year.
After nearly playing the first 20 minutes without a goal, Paul Crowder fought off a defender and snapped home his 12th goal of the season past Mike Clemente (L, 38 saves, 14-9-0-4) at 19:-08 to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
It didnt take long for the Cyclones to get back on the scoreboard in the middle period; just 1:13 in, Jonathan Hazen forced a bouncing past Clemente, making it a 2-0 game and extending his point streak to six games. At the other end of the ice, Cincinnatis defense was stifling; Rob Madore (W, 36 saves, 12-9-0) made nine more saves in the second stanza as his team held a two-goal cushion after 40 minutes.
The IceMen ramped up their offensive chances in the final period, throwing 16 more shots onto the Cincinnati net. But like the previous two periods, Madore stood tall and prevented Evansville from lighting the lamp - earning his second shutout of the season.
Cincinnati will continue its four-game road trip on Friday night when they visit the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:00pm. Fans can hear all the action of the game on the Cyclones Radio Network (CyclonesHockey.com, America One, Cyclones Mobile App) beginning at 6:30pm.
