UC and Mick Cronin engaged in contract extension discussions

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Sources close to Local 12 Sports Director Brad Johansen were indicating that a contract extension for UC head basketball coach Mick Cronin is imminent, a fact that Brad Johansen was able to confirm with coach Cronin late Thursday afternoon.

The negotiations are still ongoing, but the principles of the deal are as follows:

-- Seven year extension, that would run through the 2020-21 season

-- A base salary in the neighborhood of 2.2 million dollars annually, not including unspecified bonuses


Additional terms of the deal are still beign negotatied. Initially, Cronin was hesitant to comment, but later released this startment to Brad Johansen:

     "I can confirm that president Ono and I have spoken at length about the future and I am very confident in him and our board of trustees and thier commitment to men's basketball. I am honored to be the coach at my alma mater and hope to be so for a long time."
