RedHawks Fall to Huskies, 53-41

DeKALB, Ill (WKRC) -- A 15-0 second-half Northern Illinois run was too much for the Miami University mens basketball team to recover from on Tuesday evening at the NIU Convocation Center as the RedHawks (9-11; 5-4 Mid-American Conference) fell to the Huskies (10-11; 4-5 MAC), 53-41.

Freshman forward Joshua Oswald led the RedHawks with 10 points.
An early 8-0 run with four points from sophomore guard Geovonie McKnight and buckets from freshman guard Jaryd Eustace and sophomore guard Willie Moore sparked to the RedHawks to an early 15-5 lead with 12:13 to go in the opening half. A 5-0 spurt and an 8-0 flurry amidst a 13-4 surge for the Huskies closed the gap to one by the 5:09 mark, 19-18. A Moore layup and a pair of free throws from Eustace pushed Miamis advantage to five points with 1:30 to go, 27-22, but the Huskies scored the final four points of the half to again close within one of the RedHawks, 27-26.

Moore paced all players at the half with nine points and six rebounds.
Oswald scored the RedHawks first eight points of the second half, knocking down a triple and putting in two layups and hitting one of two free throws. Junior guard Will Sullivan tossed in a layup at the 14:12 mark as Miami jumped out to a 37-28 lead on a 10-2 run to start the half.

Northern Illinois stormed back as Aaron Armstead hit back-to-back triples and added a layup. Travon Baker hit a 3-pointer at the 12:00 mark to give NIU its first lead of the game, 39-37. After two more Huskie baskets, a McKnights layup at 9:59 halted a 15-0 NIU run. NIU pushed its lead to double figures with 4:42 to go off an Aksel Bolin 3-pointer, 51-41, and never looked back.

Bolin, Baker and Armstead head 10 points apiece for the Huskies.
