Cyclones advance to conference semis with 2-1 win over Orlando

ORLANDO (WKRC) -- A late goal for Wade Megan turned out to be the game-winner despite a frantic finish as the Cincinnati Cyclones (4-2) eliminated the Orlando Solar Bears (2-4) by winning on Tuesday night 2-1 at Amway Center. The Cyclones took the series 4-2 and advance to play the Fort Wayne Komets in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Wade MacLeod quickly pushed the Solar Bears ahead early into the opening period when he blasted a shot outside of the left circle past Rob Madore (W, 39 saves, 4-2) to make it 1-0 at 1:30. And despite outshooting Orlando 16-12 in the first frame, the Cyclones trailed by one heading into the first intermission.

The Cyclones countered with an early lamplighter of their own just 1:13 into the second stanza when Dan Eves capitalized on a turnover by burying an unassisted goal through the legs of Christopher Gibson (L, 26 saves, 1-1). The teams continued to battle, with great chances collected by both sides; however, through 40 minutes, the teams were knotted at one.

Cincinnati fought their way into the lead late into the final frame as Wade Megan sent a wrist shot from the left circle through Gibson's arm and into the net. The tally gave the Cyclones a 2-1 edge at 14:38 and sparked a ferocious fight to the finish. As time wound down, Cincinnati's defense stayed strong and prevented a rally - even with the Solar Bears pulling the goalie for an extra attacker in the final minute. And when Logan Shaw cleared the zone one last time, the seconds ticked away and Cincinnati punched its ticket to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
