Kalif Wright Signs NLI with Miami
OXFORD, Ohio (WKRC) -- Miami University's men's basketball program signed Kalif Wright (Oak Hill, W.Va./Oak Hill HS/Kilgore College) to a national letter-of-intent, head coach John Cooper announced Wednesday afternoon (April 14).
We are very excited to have Kalif joining our program, said Cooper. He is coming from a winning program that has won nearly 60 games over the last two years and played in the Junior College National Championship two years ago. Coming from West Virginia and having family who played at Marshall when they were in the league, he is familiar with the Mid-American Conference. We believe we are heading in a good direction with the program, and the signing of Kalif Wright bolsters our signing class.
Wright is a 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward who has spent the last two seasons at Kilgore College (Texas) and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. He is eligible to compete immediately for the RedHawks.
Wright helped Kilgore to a 25-6 mark this season. He averaged 10.1 ppg and 5.2 rpg for KC and shot an impressive 55.3 percent from the field.
He prepped at Oak Hill High School in Oak Hill, West Virginia, guiding the Red Devils to back-to-back state championships. Wright averaged 27.7 ppg during the state tournament as a senior and averaged 13 rebounds per game during that stretch. During his senior season, Wright averaged 24.7 ppg and 11.8 rpg en route to a 25-3 record and earned First-Team All-State honors. He finished his prep career as Oak Hills all-time leading scorer, amassing 1,690 career points.
Wright joins a RedHawk signing class that includes 6-foot-8 combination forward Logan McLane, 6-foot-2 combination guard Zach McCormick and 6-foot-7 wing Roderick Mills, who signed national letters-of-intent with Miami in November.
