Aces steal Game 3 from Cyclones, 2-0

ANCHORAGE, Ala. (WKRC) -- A controversial play late in regulation set up the game-winning goal by Jordan Morrison as the Alaska Aces (14-4) stole away a 2-0 win from the Cyclones (13-8) in front of 5,773 at Sullivan Arena on Monday night. The Alaska victory gave them a 2-1 edge in the best-of-seven Kelly Cup Finals.

Despite five power plays combined between the two teams, the opening stanza came and went without a goal. The defensive trend would continue in the middle frame despite several high quality scoring chances for both sides. Cincinnati's Rob Madore (L, 32 saves, 13-8) and Alaska's Gerald Coleman (W, 30 saves, 8-3) were equal to all the shots faced and the combatants remained scoreless after 40 minutes.

The teams continued to play a stalemate until the very late portion of the final period; Jonathan Hazen, who would have gone in on a breakaway, was hauled down from behind but didn't draw the penalty. Instead the puck was turned over, carried up ice, and deposited on a rebound by Jordan Morrison at 15:52. Alaska would prevent any chance of a Cincinnati comeback as Tyler Mosienko blasted in his first goal of the playoffs at 18:14 to seal a 2-0 win for Alaska.

The Cyclones will return to U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, June 6 to host the Alaska Aces in Game 4 of the 2014 Kelly Cup Finals.
