Xavier will play San Diego in first round of 2014 Wooden Legacy
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The Xavier Musketeers learned today who they will play in the opening round and possible second-round opponents for its Thanksgiving weekend tournament.
The bracket for the 2014 Wooden Legacy - to be played Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 27, 28 & 30 in Orange County, Calif. - has been set for the eight competing teams: Long Beach State, Princeton, San Diego, San Jose State, UTEP, Washington, Western Michigan and Xavier. Xavier will take on San Diego at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 in its first game on Nov. 27.
The multi-day, destination event will feature 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracketed-tournament format. Five of the 12 matchups, including the championship game, will be showcased on ESPN2. ESPNU will carry four games, and three will be exclusive to ESPN3.
The opening two days of competition, Thursday and Friday, will be staged at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. Four games, including the title game, will be played Sunday, at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
The tournament tips off Thursday with Princeton (Ivy League) pitted against UTEP (Conference USA) at 2 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The opener will be immediately followed by San Diego (West Coast) versus Xavier (BIG EAST) at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
Thursdays evening session will showcase Long Beach State (Big West) versus Western Michigan (Mid-American) at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU and wrap with a battle between San Jose State (Mountain West) and Washington (Pac-12) at 11 p.m. on ESPN2.
Five of the eight teams in the 2014 Wooden Legacy competed in the 2013-14 postseason. Western Michigan and Xavier earned berths in the NCAA Tournament, while Princeton and UTEP participated in the College Basketball Invitational and San Diego reached the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
