UC's Mouhon tabbed for Hendricks Award watch list

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- University of Cincinnati defensive end Silverberry Mouhon (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) was named to the watch list for the 2014 Ted Hendricks Award, which honors the top DE in the nation. Mouhon also appears on the watch list for the Rotary Lombard Award.

Mouhon was a second-team All-American Athletic Conference selection at defensive line a year ago. He tied for third in the American and finished among the Top-25 in the NCAA FBS with 9.5 sacks, along with recording 41 total tackles, including 12.5 tackles for a loss, while forcing two fumbles and seven quarterback hurries.

The junior garnered a sack in seven of UC's games and won the John Pease award following the 2013 season, recognizing UC's most outstanding defensive lineman.

The Ted Hendricks Award is named in honor of college football's first three-time first-team All-American. As a defensive end at the University of Miami, Hendricks used his agility, height and reach to block passes and kicks, force interceptions and pressure quarterbacks and running backs. His professional career spanned 15 years and 215 consecutive games, and included four Super Bowl victories, eight Pro Bowl selections and inductions into the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame.

Members of the voting committee include national media, head coaches, professional scouts and former winners. The committee will cast two votes: one to narrow the list of candidates to four to six finalists and one to choose the winner. The final midseason watch list will be announced in late November and the winner on Dec. 10.
