Cingrani sent down, Soto up

The Reds start the unofficial 2nd half of the season 5 games back of the Cards in the NL Central and four games back of their next opponent, the Pirates.

They will do so minus a starting picher. Tony Cingrani was sent down to the team's Arizona League affiliate to get work before re-joining the big league squad in San Francisco. He will start in the doubleheader on July 23rd.

Under a new rule, the Reds don't have to wait the usual 10 days to get the lefthander back, because he can be added as the roster's 26th man for a doubleheader.

Infielder Neftali Soto gets the call up from Louisville for now, giving the club an extra bench player. Soto has played in two Major League games this season and has a ground-out in his only at-bat.
