Local Reaction to Baker's Leave
CINCINNATI (Jeff Hirsh) -- Whether it was on talk radio or social media or just chatting up friends, Dusty Baker's dismissal has dominated conversation across reds country all day.
There is still a Cincinnati baseball team which is still playing at Great American Ball Park at the Friday Fall League at River City Sports Complex.
But not all the kids here had heard the news:
Jeff Hirsh asks them, “Now, did you hear the news today about dusty baker?
“He got fired today.”
Yes he did, which was a disappointment to a young first baseman, “I would like to see him stay because he's a good manager.”
Adults agreed, Dusty was good, but not good enough.
So now the search is on for a new Reds manager. Among the names being kicked around are Bryan Price, the pitching coach, and Jim Riggleman, who manages in the Reds minor league system.
But who knows, they may surprise everyone and take somebody out of left field, or right field, or home.
Or maybe they'll think outside the batter's box.
One surprise people may be feeling is how quickly the Reds pulled the trigger, but if you've decided to do it, you might as well get it over with quickly, and get started on the search for a new manager.
