WASHINGTON (SBG) -- Sheriff Jay Varney of the Madera County Sheriff's Office in Madera, California recently retired after many years of service.

The now-former police officer received well wishes after his official last sign off. Varney's son Travis commended his good work saying that Jay left "a legacy that will last a lifetime."

At the end of the video, Jay joked that luckily "he didn't cry" on camera but he "cried on the inside."
