"We spent almost five years in the planning stages of this."
All of that planning, starting to bear fruit in Hamilton. Spooky Nook, on the site of an old paper mill in Hamilton making progress, as we were invited to see Wednesday.
"We were able to begin some of the early work last year which included all of the radiation cleaning up the site making sure it was ready for construction." Spooky Nook founder Sam Beiler said. "The exciting part is the steel. Starting to see the structure go up and what the space will look like."
The space, when finished will look like the largest sports complex in North America--and the third largest in the world. Plenty of event space as well in the over one million square feet and 42 acres.
"I've been the the facility in Lancaster and I can tell you even the most talented photographers in the world cant do justice to the scope of this place." City of Hamilton spokesperson Brandon Saurber said. " And even now I don't think you fully grasp the magnitude of it."
What many are trying to wrap their head around is the economic impact that Spooky Nook, set to open in December of 2021, will bring to the city of Hamilton.
"It's not just what happens here, it's what the thousands and thousands of visitors do to the demand for retail, restaurants and other supporting amenities not only to current residents but to perspective residents." Saurber said. "I dare you to bet against us. We have a lot of momentum, great leaders of institutions, and it's just an exciting time to be a Hamiltonian."
