CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The "Light The Night Walk" is an event which brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases. It shines a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

The inspirational, memorable 2-mile walks take place in nearly 200 communities across North America each fall. During these events, participants carry illuminated lanterns – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost.

Family and corporate teams fundraise in order to help LLS find cures. By raising $100 or more, each participant will receive a Walk day t-shirt, a lantern and free food and drinks both pre- and post-walk.

The Tri-State Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has announced Patricia Davis-Hagens, Central Market President, CEO and Chief Nursing Officer for Mercy Health – Cincinnati, as corporate chair of its 2018 Light The Night® Walk.

“Supporting Light The Night is a great way to build team spirit among employees and raise critical funds for blood cancer research. In addition, with The Jewish Hospital Blood Cancer Center serving as the most advanced adult blood and bone marrow transplant program across the Tri-State, partnering with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society makes perfect sense for us and our patients,” said Davis-Hagens. “I am honored to serve as the chair and look forward to encouraging local businesses and corporations to join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by participating in Light The Night.”

“When a loved one hears the words ‘you have cancer,’ it is a dark and scary time,” said Tom Carleton, Tri-State Chapter E.D. “LLS’s Light The Night Walk brings light to the darkness of cancer through hope, research and support for patients, families, friends, doctors, nurses, researchers, colleagues and care givers.”

Will you be joining LLS in the walk ? The event takes place on October 11 at Yeatman's Cove and the program begins around 7 p.m. For more information, or to get registered for the Walk, contact the Light The Night Staff at 513-698-2830.
