Report shows towels have bacteria that can make you sick
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A new study takes a closer look at a hidden germ zone in your home.
There is now a germ warning about something you don't usually think of in the bathroom or kitchen that might be making you sick.
A new report from the American Society Microbiology says it's likely not what you think when it comes to bacteria.
The report found you likely have harmful bugs that accumulate on your kitchen towels.
Staphlococcus Aureus, Enterococcus SPP, and Coliform bacteria to be exact. They are a group that contains e-coli.
Researchers in the report found that when people wash their hands and bodies and then dry them on towels, that the bacterial accumulate and linger on cotton, nylon, and cotton-nylon blend towels that have not been machine-washed.
Cotton towels, they found, had more bacteria than nylon, and nylon blend towels as did damp towels, and those used by large families, and families with children.
