CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A local organization is reminding everyone that free help and hope is available for those who need mental health support.

For anyone who is struggling during the unofficial start to summer and isn’t feeling the joy of the season, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) wants you to know that you're not alone.

NAMI offers free mental health care and emotional support to those who need it through several online and in-person programs.

Katie Harper, executive director of NAMI of Southwest Ohio, recently appeared on Local 12's 6 a.m. show “What’s Happening in Health."

She said cost should never be a barrier to care. That's why NAMI programs are all free.

Everyone who works at NAMI understands mental illness, and many have personal stories to share.

"That's one of the things that I think is so unique about our organization, is that it's truly grassroots. When you connect with someone on the phone or at one of our presentations or classes, that's someone who has lived experience, whether it's their own or a family member's. I personally have a brother who lives with mental illness. Everyone in our organization has some kind of real connection and has walked some of that journey themselves,” Harper said.
