HOLLYWOOD (CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) - Barbie and Ken starred in a new trailer for the upcoming "Barbie" movie.
It provided more insight into how director Greta Gerwig squeezed a feature length film out of a toy, whose backstory is insubstantial.
In the trailer, Barbie lived in a perfect life in the idyllic "Barbie Land." Then, she noticed some things aren't as perfect as they used to be.
A character named "Weird Barbie" gave her choice on whether to stay in Barbie Land or see how deep the rabbit hole goes. So Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) leave to explore the “real world.”
Actor Will Farrell portrays the CEO of Mattel, whose goal is to put Barbie back in a box.
The movie will release on July 21, and only then will fans be able to discover if the "Barbie" movie has a deeper meaning, or is simply a fun summer romp! Perhaps it'll be a little bit of both!
