CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) is hosting its 5th annual Dining in the Dark fundraiser event this weekend.

“Most of us get 90% of our information through our eyes, so if you can’t see, you start to use your senses a lot more,” community relations and development manager Patsy Baughn said.

The event is happening at Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati and allows guests to experience what it’s like to lose one of their senses by being blindfolded for a portion of the meal.

“Many people are very interested in what it’s like to eat with a blindfold,” Baughn said.

“They can’t imagine actually trying to navigate life without being able to see.”

This year’s event is sold out, but CABVI is already planning next year’s event, which will be held on November 12, 2022 at Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati.

“We have really generous, loyal, and dedicated supporters who believe in the mission of this organization, which is to serve people to empower them to be more independent, regardless of vision loss,” Baughn said.

If you don’t have a ticket for the event, you can still participate in a silent auction, which kicks off at noon on Monday, November 15.
