Oriental Wok celebrates 40 years
FORT MITCHELL, Ky. (WKRC) - A Northern Kentucky landmark turned 40 years old this holiday season.
Oriental Wok was founded back in 1977 by Mike Wong. Wong moved to the Tri-State back in the mid ‘70s from Hong Kong. While his background was in architecture, he moved to the Cincinnati area to learn the restaurant business with a friend.
After a few years, Wong brought his wife, Helen, and their daughters, Susanna and Angela, to the Tri-State to open up Oriental Wok as a family. They now have two locations, one in Ft. Mitchell and another in Hyde Park.
Since then, the restaurant has hosted countless events, and celebrated hundreds of birthdays as generations of families make it their go-to spot for a meal with friends.
We've seen generations of people work here, and people meet here, and they get married here,” said Angela. “There's a lot of memories, it's really great to hear them say ‘Oh yeah, your dad bought me a drink when I turned 21!’ or, ‘He helped celebrate my parents anniversary.’”
The Wong family is celebrating their anniversary Tuesday night with a private celebration at their Ft. Mitchell restaurant.
