Altercation in North College Hill ends with man shot, sent to hospital

NORTH COLLEGE HILL, Ohio (WKRC) - Police say that Concealed Carry permit holder (CCW) shot someone during an altercation on Betts Avenue in North College Hill on Saturday.


The CCW permit holder, Verlin Stone, said that he was assaulted and knocked to the ground during the altercation with a man who he ended up shooting. He said that the assault continued and intensified when two female assailants joined in while he was on the gorund. Stone said that he eventually was able to escape and recover to his feet.

After recovering, Mr. Stone said that he attempted to disengage from the altercation, but was advanced upon by the man. Mr. Stone explained that he feared that the man may have had a weapon and fired one round from his firearm into him.

That man, who sustained injuries from the gunfire, reportedly fled the scene after being shot.

The man was then driven to Mercy West Hospital where he was transferred to University Hospital. His condition is unknown but police say that his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
