GRANT COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) - A semi truck carrying beer went up in flames in Grant County Wednesday morning and a truck driver says he's lucky to be alive.

The truck caught fire in the southbound lanes at about 10:30 a.m. south of Crittenden. Driver Tim Barker told Local 12 he wasn't sure his truck was on fire until other drivers started yelling at him. He said he pulled over and he and another driver tried to put out the fire.

Barker says a transmission problem caused the fire. He knew he had a problem but he didn't know how bad it was until the other drivers alerted him. Without them, he said he might be dead.

Barker told Local 12 he was hauling Anheuser Busch beer at the time.

The fire shut down all the southbound lanes for a time. One driver handed out popsicles to other drivers. She said they would melt before she got them home..
