Man dies after vehicle explodes in apartment parking lot
SHARONVILLE, Ohio (WKRC) - Police have identified the victim of a fatal car fire as 48-year-old Keith Nash.
A car fire and an explosion are apparently to blame in his death on Wednesday. Now, police are investigating how it all happened.
Sharonville emergency crews spent Wednesday afternoon into the evening collecting evidence and talking with witnesses.
Around 3 p.m., they got 911 calls about a vehicle fire at the Colonial Gardens Apartments on Lebanon Road.
Rescue workers found a man, who has been identified as 48-year-old Keith Nash, in the driver side of a Kia SUV. Police say Nash and his mother lived at the complex. A woman who identified herself as the assistant property manager was still trying to process what she saw and heard.
"This is unbelievable. I can't explain this. All he was doing was backing up and his car exploded. That's all I know. I seen it. You heard it," said Terry Tate.
Investigators say the fire makes this a challenge to piece together.
Sgt. Walter Cortes said, "It's tremendously complicated and there's a lot of evidence. There's a lot of evidence that may have been destroyed because of the fire. So we have several experts that have been to some classes on that."
The property manager says Nash was friendly and protective of his mother. She also says that the victim was taking care of his mother when his SUV went up in flames.
"He went to the store for his mom and he was coming back and that's what happened. So it's devastating; couldn't save him, couldn't save him," Tate said.
Police say at this point they do not believe that there is any foul play, but they are still thoroughly investigating the evidence. The victim's body and the vehicle are at the Hamilton County Coroner's Office.
