CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Before the Western & Southern / WEBN Fireworks is the Rubber Duck Regatta, and your purchase of a duck for the race can feed children in need.
You can still buy a duck before noon Sunday and before they're dropped into the Ohio River. Because of Hurricane Harvey, Rubber Duck Regatta's chair, Mark Bodnar, says their sales are behind, but they're getting help from two local businesses.
Procter & Gamble and Western & Southern are stepping and joining forces to match all ducks sales from Saturday and Sunday up to $75,000.
“We’re really honored and humbled by their outpouring of support. They’re two amazing community partners,” said Bodnar.
Bodnar says every dollar raised equals three meals for a child. One duck for the race is $5, so that's equivalent of 15 meals.
There are also prizes to be awarded for the winners of the regatta. The first-place prize is a Honda HRV, and if the winner's duck is one of Kemba's Million-Dollar Ducks, they also win $1 million. Bodnar says there's a million-dollar duck for every 1,500 ducks, so the chances are better than you think.
The second-place winner gets free groceries from Kroger for a year. You would get a $100 gift card from Kroger ever week, totaling $5,200 for the year.
And there will also be five additional winners who will get $500 from Kemba Credit Union.
