Colerain fire department and family mark 10 years since deaths of Broxterman, Schira

Marking ten years since Captain Robin Broxterman and firefighter Brian Schira died while fighting a house fire (WKRC)

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - Colerain firefighters, friends and family marked ten years since two firefighters were killed on the job. Captain Robin Broxterman and firefighter Brian Schira died on April 4, 2008.

Broxterman and Schira were battling a fire at a home on Squirrelsnest Lane when the floor collapsed, sending them into the fire that had started in the basement.

At 6:11:23 a.m., Colerain Fire and EMS paused for a moment of silence in tribute. Firefighters and others paid a private visit to Squirrelsnest Lane. Then they went to Station 102 at Colerain and Kemper Roads and to a private gravesite visitation at Spring Grove Cemetery.

The Colerain Fire Department said that lessons learned from Broxterman's and Schira's deaths have saved other firefighters from the same fate in basement fires.
