Democrat takes local office in big Republican area
HILLSBORO, Ohio (WKRC) - The political power of women, and African-American women at that, was on display in the local area on Thursday.
An African-American Democrat was sworn into office in an overwhelmingly white, overwhelmingly Republican and overwhelmingly pro-President Donald Trump part of the Tri-State, Highland County.
61-year-old Patricia “Patty” Burns believes that she is the first African-American treasurer in Highland County history.
Patty Burns is also an Associate Pastor at the Cornerstone Assembly of God.
Burns joins a few other elected Democrats at Hillsboro City Hall, but they are in the minority.
County-wide, there is only one elected Democrat: Judge Rocky Coss.
