Flying Pig Marathon voted best marathon in Ohio
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The famous, annual Flying Pig Marathon powered by P&G in Cincinnati was voted the best marathon in Ohio, according to an online community for runners.
RaceRaves.com is described as an "online community for runners to share information on race events around the world" and is the site that conducted the poll.
“Runners go hog wild for the Flying Pig,” the article said, “one of the most revered races in the country. Now entering its third decade, Cincinnati’s hometown marathon earns rave reviews for embracing its namesake, with start corrals known as ‘pig pens.’ volunteers affectionately referred to as ‘grunts,’ and a ‘finish swine’ where finishers collect pig-themed swag.”
The article also points out the “scenic urban course (which briefly crosses into Kentucky) and unrivaled crowd support” that keeps runners and walkers coming back year after year. “In a state with no shortage of first-class running events,” the article concludes, “the Pig leaves other races pink with envy.”
“We are honored to be chosen as the top marathon in Ohio,” Iris Simpson Bush, Flying Pig Marathon executive director, said. “With so many great marathons in the state of Ohio, it is humbling to know that our event was voted the best by our participants. We couldn’t do this without the support of our sponsors, our volunteers, our ‘grunts’ and the more than 150,000 ‘street squealer’ spectators who come out no matter what the weather to cheer our runners and walkers.”
The 21st running of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon weekend powered by P&G is May 3-5, 2019.
