WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WKRC) - A West Chester home went up in flames Saturday night.

It happened at the corner of Cincinnati Dayton Road and Fox Plum Drive around 6:45 p.m.

Fighting the fire was especially challenging for crews due to frigid temperatures and ammunition inside the house.

A few fire hydrants were frozen from the cold.

Also, the flames set off ammunition inside the house, causing explosions like firecrackers.

Fire officials said the homeowner had several thousand rounds of ammo.

Firefighters had to wait for the explosions to stop before trying to put out the flames.

They attacked it from the outside.

The family is OK but the home is a total loss.

One firefighter had a minor ankle injury and was treated at the scene.
