CINCINNATI, Ohio (WKRC) - The neighborhood enhancement program in South Cumminsville and Camp Washington kicked off with a groundbreaking.
The ground was broken for the first of 25 new homes for low-to-moderate income homeowners, The homes will feature renewable energy sources.
"The net zero energy conservation green standard model advanced by Sister Barbara Busch, the leader of WIN, who is very much a community development visionary and energy expert in her own right, will benefit low to moderate income, first-time homebuyers, by reducing the cost of their energy consumption to net zero, meaning their energy usage will be completely offset by the amount of the energy produced onsite by solar technology," said board chair Bob Alexander of Working in Neighborhoods.
While city leaders get a lot of credit, so do the neighbors, says Sister Busch. "None of this would ever happen if our neighborhood residents were not active engaged willing to maintain their communities and keep those of us working with them on track."
The neighborhood enhancement program will target city services for 90 days to improve the neighborhoods. Organizers are also hoping to start the process to build a walking trail and remove blight and litter.
