Karrikin Spirits is set to open this week

    CINCINNATI (Cincinnati Business Courier) - Cincinnati's newest craft brewery, distillery and restaurant opens this week.

    Karrikin Spirits Co. is hosting its grand opening in Fairfax on Dec. 7.

    Mike Florea, former executive chef and operating partner at Maribelle's Eat + Drink, is one of the partners opening the establishment. He told me the whole idea was to turn up the idea of craft.

    "We're not doing the everyday pulled pork and beer kind of thing, we wanted to add spirits to up the game," he said.

    Florea is joined by a group of owners and manager who know their respective crafts. The ownership group includes:

    • Jeff Hunt, co-founder of MadTree Brewing
    • Jeff Reichard, president of Holt & Reichard Inc.
    • Dan Hueber, owner of the V Collective
    • Mike Powell, former vice president of operations at Panera Bread
    • John Pattison, creative director at Project Red
    • Eric Baumann, formerly of Oskar Blues and Christian Moerlein

    They're joined by executive chef Jared Bennett, formerly of the 21c Museum Hotel's Metropole; chef de cuisine Chris Davis, who formerly held that position at Via Vite, and sous chef Meagan White, who also formerly worked at Metropole. Chris Brown, former beverage director of the 21c Museum Hotel downtown, runs Karrikin's bar program, and Melissa Schneider, who used to manage two Mellow Mushroom locations, is the general manager.
