CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A local program that helps prepare children for kindergarten is expanding.
Santa Maria Community Services serves many families, especially on the West Side. It recently got a grant to expand its POP Program, which stands for "Promoting Our Preschoolers."
The team there takes books and other supplies into children's homes to assist them with early childhood development. Isis Canel shared details about the program this week on Local 12's show, "What's Happening in Health?"
"So, when we go into their homes, we do an assessment first. How are they doing? Do they know their letters? Their colors? Basically, what they need for kindergarten. We do activities for them, and we have support of parents, but, mainly, our program is to teach our parents to teach their kids how to learn colors and numbers and everything they need before entering kindergarten."
