CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There’s nothing quite like a fresh glass of lemonade. It's even better when the proceeds are going toward a great mission.
A lemonade stand is back and bigger than ever this year.
Last year Local 12 introduced you to Payton Obert. She raised $7,000 through a lemonade stand to buy toys for kids in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Payton, now 8, was inspired to raise money for CCHMC because she received her favorite toy, “Teddy,” during a stay at the hospital.
Payton has a team of kids helping her this year. In addition to her stand in Dent, there were lemonade stands in Hebron, Delhi, Fairfield, Finneytown, Monfort Heights, Cleves and Hyde Park.
The lemonade stand even had a sponsor this year. Dwyer Insurance Agency bought franchise lemonade stand hosts shirts and reusable cups.
Jess Obert, Payton’s mom, says they are working hard to make sure everyone is safe in the midst of the pandemic. Lemonade stands had plexiglass, hosts had masks and there were lemon stickers on the ground to encourage social distancing.
Jess, who works at CCHMC, says the hospital is not able to accept toy donations this year because of the pandemic, so the funds raised from the stands are especially needed.
The lemonade stands served lemonade from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 1.
As of August 2, $30,000 had been raised.
People can still donate online by Venmo @PaytonsLemonadeStand or HERE.
