MASON, Ohio (WKRC) - A Western Row Elementary fourth-grade student died Wednesday after she suffered cardiac arrest after a bout with the flu and strep throat, according to Mason City Schools.
The school released a statement Wednesday night that reads, in part:
Our Comet family is grieving tonight after learning that one of our fourth graders, Sable Gibson, died this evening...Our hearts are with the Gibson family during this very difficult time. We also lift up all of Sable’s classmates, teachers and support staff.
School officials are inviting everyone at Western Row to wear pink, Sable's favorite color, on Thursday to show their love and support for Sable's friends and family.
The school will also have additional counselors available.
In its statement, Mason City Schools shared a link to suggestions on what parents can say to their children about death.
