CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The man accused of stealing a car with three children inside in Colerain Township answered to charges in court Monday. A judge ordered Howard Mullis, 33, held on $625,000 bond.

Mullis is accused of jumping into a running SUV outside a barbershop near Pippin and Galbraith Saturday, and taking off with three children inside.

The father got into another car and tried to chase the stolen SUV. In court, assistant prosecutor Davis Wood said Mullis was speeding, passing left of center, running red lights and driving on the sidewalk. The father backed off, fearing for the kids' safety.

The children were found in the car at a Walmart on Colerain Avenue three hours later. The kids, ages 4, 4 and 1, were safe. Mullis was arrested a short time later. Police say he confessed.

Mullis was arraigned on three kidnapping and one theft charge.
